Recapping Phase 2 of the 2019 Amgen Tour That Came Through Downtown Placerville

Last Updated 12/16/2021

We are so excited that the Amgen Tour was once again able to make it through our beautiful town!

Due to possible snow issues, the tour almost had to bypass Placerville. Lucky for us, the weather was cooperative! Yay!

What Is The Amgen Tour?

According to Amgen Tour of California's site, "Amgen Tour of California is a Tour de France-style cycling road race created and presented by AEG that challenges the world’s top professional cycling teams to compete along a demanding course that traverses hundreds of miles of California’s iconic highways, byways and coastlines each spring."

There were approximately 800 to 1000+ in attendance to watch the approximately 80+ racers (19 teams, with 5-6 riders on each team) make their way through our Downtown, right up Main Street.

At the race, attendees even got to experience an old time mock shoot out by the Hangtown Mashalls.

Cowbells were also provided for the race watchers and there was even a parade and band performance!

For Cleve, the highlight for the event was seeing the racers come through and the cheering of the crowd in downtown Placerville.

For Kamasu, it was seeing how excited the kids got when the racers came through town.

Conclusion?

It’s a great event and we need to keep it going.

Stay tuned for details for 2020!
